Philadelphia (May 19, 2014) – On Monday May 19th, PII Philadelphia hosted its 1st Annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Dinner. This was the pilot event for what will be an annual dinner that honors exceptional members of the law enforcement community. This year, Peace Islands Institute honored Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey, FBI S.A.C. Edward Hanko, Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams, and Executive Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Reed.
The event began with a ceremony of the Philadelphia Police Honor Guard, and the singing of the American National Anthem. The welcome speech was given by Knight Sor, from the Department of Justice, and Mr. Sor presented an award to Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey. The event was Emceed by Natosha Warner, Community Outreach Specialist with the FBI.
The event continued with awards given to S.A.C. Ed Hanko, U.S. Attorney Robert Reed, and D.A. Seth Williams. The keynote speech was given by FBI S.A.C. Ed Hanko. S.A.C. Hanko spoke about the need for law enforcement to be involved with the community, and to have relationships with community organizations that work closely with law enforcement at a level of deep friendship. Mr. Hanko also spoke about the exceptional level of unity and cooperation among the different branches and agencies of law enforcement in the Greater Philadelphia Region.
The awardees spoke of the need for organizations like Peace Islands Institute, in creating an environment and platforms for dialogue and friendship as another solution to the problems in society that create crime. The event concluded with live music.
