Peace Islands Institute (PII) co-sponsored and TccPenn The Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus’ (PLBC) 2016 Civil Rights Achievement Award Ceremony
Peace Islands Institute (PII) co-sponsored and TccPenn The Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus’ (PLBC) 2016 Civil Rights Achievement Award Ceremony on Saturday, January 16th. The ceremony took place at the African American Museum in Center City, Philadelphia where more than 200 guests were in attendance.
Several dance and music performances took place by members of the Pennsylvania African American community. Chairwoman of the Caucus, Vanessa Lowery Brown, introduced the members of the PLBC to the audience. After the recitation of Dr. Martin Luther King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech by K. Rose Samuel, an awards presentation was held. Twenty recipients were awarded for their work on civil rights.
Feyzi Eygoren, Peace Islands Institute’s Outreach Coordinator, gave the closing remarks at the end of the ceremony where he emphasized the importance of the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. for the entire world, and how PII’s mission and vision, inspired by its Honorary President Fethullah Gulen, are paralleled to his teachings. A reception followed at the end of the ceremony.
