What is Qurbani?
Qurbani, also known as Udhiyah, is a practice deeply rooted in Islamic tradition and observed during the annual festival of Eid al-Adha. Derived from the story of Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God, Qurbani serves as a profound reminder of the importance of selflessness and devotion. It is a testament to the ultimate sacrifice made for faith and the imperative to care for those in need.
During Qurbani, livestock such as sheep, goats, cows, or camels are sacrificed according to specific Islamic guidelines. The meat from these sacrifices is then distributed to those less fortunate, aiming to ensure that the blessings of Eid are shared with all members of the community. This act of sharing not only provides nourishment but also fosters a sense of unity and compassion that transcends cultural and societal boundaries.
