On March 19, 2025, Philadelphia City Hall’s Mayor’s Reception Room became a gathering place for unity and understanding during the annual Interfaith Iftar dinner. The event was co-sponsored by the Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations (PCHR), the Mayor’s Office of Muslim Engagement, the Mayor’s Office of Faith-Based Initiatives and Interfaith Affairs, and Peace Islands Institute Pennsylvania (PII PA).
This year’s theme, “Nostra Aetate (In Our Time): Finding Common Ground & Understanding,” emphasized the importance of interfaith dialogue and collaboration. The gathering aimed to foster mutual understanding, empathy, and connection among individuals from diverse faiths and backgrounds.
Randy Duque, Acting Executive Director of PCHR, highlighted the nation’s foundation built on immigrant contributions and diverse faiths, noting that the Interfaith Iftar serves as a platform for fostering understanding and mutual respect. Imam Quaiser Abdullah, Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office of Muslim Engagement, and Muhammed Said Selmanlar, Executive Director of PII PA, also addressed attendees, emphasizing the significance of unity and dialogue during challenging times.
