On the evening of December 6, 2023, Peace Islands Institute Pennsylvania proudly hosted its Annual Public Heroes Appreciation Awards. This annual event continues to recognize and celebrate the dedication of first responders, government employees in public safety, and community partners committed to building a peaceful community in the Greater Philadelphia area.

Stronger Together

This year’s theme, “#StrongerTogether” set the tone for an evening filled with gratitude and appreciation. The event commenced with the uplifting flag ceremony by the Philadelphia Police Department Police Explorers, followed by a warm welcome speech from Lowell Gustafson, the dedicated board president of Peace Islands Institute Pennsylvania. He highlighted the institute’s mission to promote a civil society based on shared human values, justice, and human rights.

Jacqueline Romero, the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, was introduced as the keynote speaker and the first woman to hold this position. She was praised for her work as a U.S. Attorney and her office’s community engagement.
